Motorcycle collision reconstruction training course

As part of a motorcycle collision reconstruction training course, instructors at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy slammed their dummy, Randy, and his motorcycle into a car at 47 mph so officers could get hands on experience at taking measurements to recreate the scene later for analysis.
Randy, at 150 pounds, and his motorcycle made separate impacts in the driver’s side of the beat up 1980s model Chrysler, and with a 13-inch dent, Darnell said it could’ve been fatal for the car’s driver.

If somebody’s on the phone, texting or looking at their Facebook while they’re driving down the road, that little inattention could be what causes them to pull out in front of somebody.”

“An accident is what happens if you slip in the shower or slip going down the steps, that’s an accident,” Darnell said. According to the Department of Public Safety, there were 1,820 motorcycle collisions last year, with 80 resulting in death. To date, there have already been 94 motorcycle fatalities on South Carolina roads this year.
